Mi gran interés desde la infancia por el conocimiento de la naturaleza, en especial por los animales, me llevó a ser zoólogo por vocación, formación y profesión. Estudio la fauna acuática (dulceacuícola y, en menor medida, marina), principalmente los plecópteros y otros macroinvertebrados fluviales, aunque también realizo investigaciones en diferentes grupos animales (invertebrados marinos, peces y otros grupos, etc.), de Europa, América y, más puntualmente, otros continentes. He descrito 14 especies nuevas (incluida una fósil) de Europa, Asia y América. Mi investigación también se centra en la ecología fluvial. Las principales temáticas abordadas en mis estudios se detallan en las líneas de investigación (ver más abajo). Soy autor o coautor de más de 300 publicaciones científicas más una treintena divulgativas, incluyendo seis libros (más otros tres como editor), más de 45 capítulos y fichas de libro, 168 artículos en revistas indexadas en SCI, etc. Desde 2008 soy miembro del Standing Committee of the International Society of Plecopterologists. Junto a la investigación, tengo la suerte de poder dedicarme también a la docencia. Las principales asignaturas de Grado, Licenciatura, Máster o Doctorado que he impartido o imparto son las de Zoología, Biología de la Conservación, Zoología Marina, Desarrollo Sostenible y Sistemas Lóticos.

 

My great interest since childhood for the knowledge of nature, and especially for the animals, led me to be a zoologist by vocation, training and profession. I study aquatic fauna (freshwater and, to a lesser extent, marine animals), mainly Plecoptera and other fluvial macroinvertebrates, as well as other animal groups (marine invertebrates, fish and other vertebrates, etc.), from Europe, America and, less frequently, other continents. I have described 14 new species (including one fossil) from Europe, Asia, and America. My research also focuses on stream ecology. The main topics addressed in my studies are detailed in the research lines (see below). I am author or co-author of more than 300 scientific publications (plus a thirty in popular science magazines), including six books (plus three as an editor), more than 45 chapters and book cards, 168 articles in journals indexed in SCI, etc. Since 2008, I am a member of the Standing Committee of the International Society of Plecopterologists. Alongside research, I am lucky to be able to exercise the teaching. The main courses of Degree, Bachelor, Master or PhD that I have imparted or I impart are Zoology, Conservation Biology, Marine Zoology, Sustainable Development and Lotic Systems.

  • Taxonomía, faunística y conservación de insectos acuáticos, fundamentalmente plecópteros, y otros animales dulceacuícolas y marinos.
  • Biología y ecología de macroinvertebrados acuáticos, peces y otros organismos (ciclos de vida, alimentación, producción secundaria, reproducción, etc.).
  • Biología de plecópteros adultos (comunicación intersexual, comportamiento de cópula, alimentación, etc.)
  • Ecología fluvial.

 

Research lines

  • Taxonomy, faunistic and conservation of aquatic insects, mainly Plecoptera, and other freshwater and marine animals.
  • Biology and ecology of aquatic macroinvertebrates, fish and other organisms (life cycles, feeding habits, secondary production, reproduction, etc.)
  • Biology of adult stoneflies (intersexual communication, mating behaviour, feeding, etc.).
  • Stream ecology.
